Off the cuff photo. . .

Well, I was out in the back yard and noticed the bees among the lavender.
This was the best photo of the ones actually with bees in them - they're very fast and very busy little things. *grin*.

Wow! A Photo!

This is of the Lake/river next to the wall near Lichfield Cathedral, taken October 2008. Yes, it's slightly out of focus, but it was done without a tripod at midnight (no filters and no post manipulating, either). I think the composition is
pretty. Considering.
I tried to get another picture a few months later when I'd taken a tripod with me, but the pictures were abominable. So I'll settle for this.

Photos - or lack of them.

I realise that there's not a lot of photos on here. I guess that my main problem is pickiness. I'm not confident enough to click, transfer, crop and upload. I should be, considering I've been taking pictures for over 35 years. I'm not perfect, as I've never taken a photography course, but I'm not bad. I should find the giraffe picture I took when I was younger (exact age forgotten), scan it in and post it.
We'll see.

As to the digital photos - well, there's lots of those in small viewing format, courtesy of Flickr, if you go to the other journal attached to this one.

Real Photo

I captured this one at the beginning of the month, around midnight, just after the rain had stopped.
It's a miniature rose bush, and as is typical for them, unscented. My three other rose bushes are 2 yellow - one pink-edged - and a pink, all full sized scented tea roses.
I'm hoping to eventually get another rose bush (not a tea rose), a scented biscuit coloured one - not bronze, but biscuit. They're out there.
Night.

Kitten photos

Yes, I'm being mushy. I've put dibs on a kitten (possibly two) from a litter that a cat of my Best Friend's had (yes, that IS an awkward sentence construction. Live with it.).

I've named her Apricot. The first one (cheesecake pose) is a photo I took the night of the day I arrived, and the second (sitting in handbag), is of the day I was leaving. She was originally on my coat, and I pushed her off, expecting her to jump down - she ended up on my bag. Not once, but twice - the second time - I'd turfed her out and put my handbag in the kitchen, and she planted herself there again (didn't get a photo of that one as I'd packed my camera away by that point and was waiting for the taxi).

She's got very pretty markings on her back, which I just couldn't capture - she's ordinarily an active little girl and just didn't want to be posed.

Shame - I also wanted belly shots - she's got a spotty belly. Num.

The other kitten I might have? Her name right now is Gizmo and she's a long-haired version of Apricot (more orange, though) with a black nose. SO cute. But my Best Friend's youngest girl wants her badly, and depending on what happens between now and December, I might have her.
I've got a few photos of her and I'll work on posting them.

Later. Got kitty supplies to search for.

I LOVE My Camera

Ok, maybe I'm not too fond of it's lack of willingness to capture violets and indigos if any other colours are there, but I really get thrilled by its super macro feature. Well, it is one of the primary reasons I bought it.

Take these couple photos, for instance. The first one is of the back of a pretty house spider. She's the dark smudge in the web underneath the Plug - look for the strands of webbing. So I set up, took photo - then realised I'd forgotten the light. Oops.

So I went and set one up, took the shot, and focused in on this:

Isn't it GREAT! You can even see the hairs on the legs. Whee!

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

This photo was taken the 9th of August, very early in the morning. It was awkward to shoot it, as the sun was at an awkward angle and I was getting horrific glare at any other angle than the one I took this photo at, so this photo was nice to capture. I managed to accent the webs using a water-mister.

The largest of the webs (lower right) was only about a handspan and a 1/2 wide. They were Spiderling webs, I think. They were never repaired or cleaned after this photo.

It was about 9pm on the 4th of July. The light was a pearly yellow upon the houses and the sky . . .

The First Picture Post

I like this photo as it shows the translucency of the blossoms.

One of my lilac blossoms - taken using a C7000 Olympus camera on the 17th of May, 2005. Posted by Picasa

First Post

Well, another journal to "ignore". I'm not a frequent poster.

But this is an attempt to start taking photographs more frequently.

I used to love photography as a teenager, and somehow life overwhelmed me with other things.

I'm crossing fingers I'll do with this what I set out to do.

Here goes.
